How to Match a Wedding Band to a Moissanite Engagement Ring

The most common wedding band mistake is buying a straight band for an engagement ring that does not sit flush. Here is how to avoid it.

Check the ring's profile

If your engagement ring has a low-set basket or a wide halo, a standard straight band will hit the gallery and leave a visible gap. Measure from the top of the band to the lowest point of the setting.

Three options

• Flush-fit / notched band — a small cut-out that lets the band slide under the setting.
• Contour band — curved to hug the engagement ring's outline.
• Straight band worn separately — the simplest solution if you are happy to wear them on different fingers.

Match the metal, not just the colour

14K white gold against platinum will wear differently and one will scratch the other over decades. Matching the metal type prevents long-term abrasion.

Width balance

A 2mm band flatters a delicate solitaire; 3–4mm balances a larger centre stone. A band much thinner than 1.8mm is not durable for daily wear.
