Wedding Band Metals Compared: Gold, Platinum, Palladium & More

Your wedding band is worn every single day, so metal choice is about durability and lifestyle more than looks alone.
Platinum
The most durable precious metal — it scratches but doesn't wear away, and is naturally hypoallergenic. The premium choice, and priced accordingly.
18k vs 14k gold
18k is purer and richer in colour; 14k is harder and more scratch-resistant. For daily wear, 14k is the practical sweet spot.
White gold
Rhodium-plated for a bright white finish. Re-plating is needed every 1–2 years — factor that into long-term cost.
Palladium
A lighter, cheaper platinum alternative in the platinum family. Good value, naturally white.
Titanium & tungsten
Near-indestructible and affordable — popular for men's bands, though they can't be resized.
